There are some wedding days where you can feel the emotion from the moment you arrive, and Rochelle and Joshua’s wedding at Hellidon Lakes Hotel Resort & Spa in Daventry, Northamptonshire was definitely one of them.
From the excitement of the morning preparations to the nerves before the ceremony, there were so many lovely moments throughout the day that made it one to remember.
Getting ready for the big day
The day started with some bridal preparations, with all the usual excitement, anticipation and last-minute finishing touches happening before the ceremony.
These parts of the day are some of my favourites to photograph. There’s always a mixture of calm and chaos — someone is looking for something, there are plenty of laughs, and underneath it all you can feel that everyone is counting down to the moment when the couple finally see each other.
For Rochelle, there was also a particularly special moment planned — her first look with Dad.
And yes, there were definitely tears.
Those moments are incredibly special because they aren’t really about posing for a photograph. They’re about capturing a genuine reaction that happens once and only once. A dad seeing his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time is something that deserves to be remembered exactly as it happened.
Meanwhile… the boys had their own plans!
While Rochelle was getting ready, the groomsmen had apparently decided that the best way to deal with the nerves was to hold their own little party!
I’m not sure how much it actually helped calm the nerves, but there was certainly plenty of laughter and fun going on before the ceremony.
I love having these moments in a wedding gallery. It’s not just about photographing the couple — it’s about telling the whole story of the day and capturing the people who helped make it what it was.
A beautiful and emotional ceremony
Before long, it was time for the ceremony.
There was plenty of emotion throughout the day and the ceremony was no exception. With family and friends there to share the occasion, it was a beautiful moment as Rochelle and Joshua finally became husband and wife.
It’s always lovely watching everything unfold after you’ve seen the nerves and excitement earlier in the morning. Suddenly, all those little moments of anticipation make sense.
And then… you’re married!
Some time together around the lake
Once the ceremony and the formalities were over, we took a little time away from the guests for some couple portraits around Hellidon Lakes.
This is one of the things I really enjoy about wedding photography — giving a couple a little bit of breathing space during what can otherwise be a very busy day.
We headed out onto the golf course and around the lake, taking advantage of the beautiful surroundings and capturing some relaxed photographs of Rochelle and Joshua together.
No complicated posing and no need to spend ages away from their guests. Just a little time to enjoy being newlyweds and take everything in.
The lake and surrounding grounds at Hellidon Lakes gave us a lovely backdrop, and it was a great opportunity to capture some quieter moments after what had already been a very emotional day.
And that’s really what I loved about Rochelle and Joshua’s wedding. It wasn’t about trying to make everything look perfect or following a rigid schedule. It was about the people, the emotion, the laughter and all those little moments that happen naturally throughout the day.
Back to the celebrations
After our time around the lake, it was back to the reception where the guests could settle in, enjoy some food and continue the celebrations.
From Dad’s first look and the groomsmen’s pre-wedding party to the emotional ceremony and some quiet time together around the lake, there was a real mixture of emotions throughout the day.
And those are the weddings I love photographing.
If you’re planning a wedding at Hellidon Lakes, or anywhere around Daventry, Northamptonshire, and want your day photographed naturally without spending hours posing for photographs, I’d love to hear from you.
